Community Wellness Center

Lead: Gloria Thomas

A community wellness center focuses on the health and wellbeing of individuals living in the community. It is a place where people can explore and learn ways to improve their health and wellbeing. There could be classes on multiple subjects. Examples are relaxation techniques, ways to improve life, how to maintain a home, peer groups (e.g. parents, teens, homework tutoring, computer work, access to computers, employment preparation) Health subjects are of particular interest: Mental health, reducing the risk of strokes, heart attacks.

To support the Makersville Services community, we will provide space and support specific projects of Makersville and Makersville Services. We consider economic inclusion and work with Makersville to find alternative income paths for those who might currently have limited opportunities for income generation. This can range from older adult (50+) or youth (14-26) community projects that create products for the Handmade Carnival, to sales of handmade goods on ETSY, Amazon and in person. Income from these projects would go towards the benefit of the community.
