Call to Artists

The Long Beach Qingdao Association (LBQA) aims to foster cultural exchange, economic cooperation, and diplomatic ties between the cities of Long Beach, California, and Qingdao, China. Established in 1985, this partnership has flourished—encouraging collaboration in trade, education, tourism, and environmental sustainability. Through mutual understanding and meaningful connection, LBQA works to strengthen people-to-people relationships and promote peace and prosperity between our two cities and nations. With a focus on shared values and mutual respect, we strive to build lasting friendships and create opportunities for growth across the Pacific.

As part of our cultural exchange efforts, we’re excited to invite student artists from junior high and high schools in Long Beach and Qingdao to take part in our growing Lunar New Year Art Book project. This special collaboration celebrates the traditions, stories, and creative spirit surrounding the Lunar New Year, highlighting the unique ways it’s experienced in each community—and inspired by the zodiac animal of the year.

If you’re a student who loves to draw, paint, write poetry, or express yourself through art—we’d love to see your work! We accept high-resolution images (300 DPI or higher) of visual artwork, as well as short-form poetry and writing. Selected pieces may be featured in our digital or printed art book, shared in exhibitions, or used in future projects that support our mission of cultural connection.

Interested in joining or learning more? Reach out to Chelsea Marroquin at longbeachqingdao@gmail.com.

By submitting, you confirm that you are the original creator and grant permission for LBQA to feature your work in materials that highlight our cultural programs.

Let your art become part of a cross-cultural celebration—one that brings two cities, and many stories, together.
