The brain-child of Joey King, the maritime symposium and diversity job fair will bring students from high school, college and university together to share knowledge with and learn from each other and employers in the industry.

In 2023 we hosted the job fair and symposium at Houghton Park Social Hall as well as a Makersville and Makersville Services community meeting. What a great location for this event!

Many thanks to the following organizations and individuals for their participation and support: The Port of Long Beach (sponsor), California State Assemblymember Mike Gipson, President of the ILWU Local 13, Gary Herrera, Beverly Berekian, JPL/NASA Educator, Darie Achstein-Conway, Waterwise Education, Tim Heiderich and Robinne Ponty, Connected Nation Teens Teach Tech program.

Our 2022 event was supported by the office of Assemblymember Mike Gipson, the Long Beach City College’s Department of Workforce Development, the Port of Long Beach and Makersville (a community project of ETES Inc.) and the entire Makersville Services board.

There were 3 major parts to the project: A Maritime Symposium – shared experiences from diverse individuals in the Maritime Industry, a competition, and a diversity job fair.

Very successful, and we will again execute in 2023.
